Los Angeles, California
Spirits were high as nearly 350 guests from across the continent came to celebrate innovation in clean transportation at the 2010 California Air Quality Awards in Los Angeles. The festivities began with an intimate roundtable between our most prominent sponsors and panelists; topics ranged from alternative fuel investments to the future of AB32, California’s Global Warming Solutions Act. This closed-door session was moderated by Ed Begley, Jr., and featured honoree T. Boone Pickens and other luminary panelists.
The subsequent VIP reception hosted more than 75 community and business leaders; among them were 20 dignitaries, including Assemblymember Hector de la Torre, Senator Gilbert Cedillo and Los Angeles City Councilmember Jan Perry. The impressive crowd and jovial ambiance served as a clear sign that we are not alone on the road to clean air.
As the awards ceremony commenced, Board Chair Erik Neandross welcomed guests with a timely reminder of this celebration’s significance: “From the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, to the possibility of increasing our offshore drilling, Americans have become sharply aware of the need to cut our dependence on fossil fuels. Now is the time to rethink how we transport ourselves.”
The luncheon was punctuated with inspiring words by honorees T. Boone Pickens and Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, each stressing the need for action to solve California’s air pollution crisis. Following the ceremony, attendees eagerly convened around our gourmet dessert bar, complete with a lavish chocolate fountain—truly a sweet ending to this memorable event.
The California Air Quality Awards, CCA’s signature annual awards luncheon, raises valuable funds to support our vital work in reducing air pollution across California through advocacy, outreach and education.
The Coalition for Clean Air thanks its sponsors, donors and guests for the luncheon’s great success.
